A Leadership Growth Model
by John Ruh
If you are in a managerial position, your staff expects you to show leadership. But how does one grow as a leader? Here is a proven way to do it.
A. Find the right peer group. Working with a group of people who have faced problems similar to yours is inspiring and thought provoking.
B. Find the right coach/s or business advisor/s. Most high performance leaders have a 1-1 coach and/or advisor who tells them what they need to hear honestly and openly. Do you have someone like this?
C. Get the tools you need to do your job well. Tools can be thought of as best practices transformed into programs, processes or models. (See P.S.) Decide what tools you need to do your job well and make sure you have them.
It has been my experience that the above model, when practiced, accelerates the personal and professional growth of any leader.
Call us now for support on designing a personal and professional development plan (http://www.johnruh.com/PPD.htm) for you and your leaders that does two thingsā¦builds the skills that they need to be better leaders and provides them with a growth plan.
P.S. To quote Buckminster Fuller, “If you want to teach people a new way of thinking, don’t bother trying to teach them. Instead, give them a tool, the use of which will lead to new ways of thinking.“
