Brief excerpts from Michael Jordan’s book, Driven From Within
Michael Jordan

When I came back, I didn’t have to tell anyone anything. I showed them.

Once I gave my word and signed on the dotted line, I stuck with it. That’s what leaders do.

I focus on the little things. Little things add up to big things.

I don’t believe in bad habits.

You have to be uncompromised in your level of commitment to whatever you are doing, or it can disappear as fast as it appeared.

You didn’t want the abuse that came with missing games on the Bulls. We had a shared commitment to the unit.

I wanted to apply my creativity to everything I did.

I couldn’t have imagined everything that has happened. But dreams are like that. That’s what makes the journey so interesting.

I know people say that when they look at Michael, they don’t see him of a particular color. They see him as Michael.

To this day, I still feel like I can play the game.

When I did get attention, I wanted to show people that I deserved it.

Re: Brand Jordan

Fad are fads; they come and go. That’s not what brand Jordan is about and that’s not who I am.

We are right there with the fashion leaders. In most cases. We’re ahead of them. We can change. We can put out some wild stuff.

John Ruh’s Observation on Michael Jordan’s Book

Michael Jordan was not management, he was a line guy…a player. And look at the impact he had on his fellow players. It shows you leadership can be exhibited from anyone in your organization. After reading his book, I came away impressed as his insights on branding and positioning as well as having a better understanding on how clear his values and commitments are. There were no short cuts with Michael Jordan.
