How to Reinvent Yourself

How to Reinvent Yourself
By John Ruh

  • What are your beliefs about yourself?
  • Does your self-image support you in achieving your stated vision/goals?
  • What self-limiting beliefs are holding you back?

Since I have started and sold four successful businesses, many people refer to me as a serial entrepreneur. I am now in the process of starting a fifth one (The Entrepreneurial Store). Creating businesses required that I reinvent myself over and over, so that I believed each of these new endeavors would be successful. Why would anyone try something new and challenging if they did not believe they could achieve? And yet, most people fail to see the importance of developing this belief system as an important ingredient in beginning a new challenge.

Here is my take

Once you know what you want to accomplish, you need to look at your context or perspective. Ask yourself, “Is it possible for me to achieve what I want?” You will be amazed at what answers may come up. In addition, it is a good idea to have conversations about the enterprise with individuals and peer groups that advise you. Ask them if they think you have the right beliefs/attitudes to support your goal. Once the first two steps are in place (vision/key goals and right context), you can work on steps 3-5; that is creating the right strategy, structure and support. For some reason many people spend a great deal of time on steps 3-5 before they have done steps 1 and 2 properly.

What do you believe?

Are you aware of an attitude, belief or context that is preventing you, your staff or your company from achieving your goals? Are you ready to take the necessary steps to change and move forward? 2011 is upon us and, to be successful, it may require that you and the company reinvent yourself.

Call or email me and let’s set up a session with you and your leadership team to discuss this more fully.

Be well.

Stay on purpose.
