The Pants Story or
How to Dress Your Business for Success
By John Ruh
This is the story of business structure.
When you were 18, you wore a certain size pants. Chances are when you turned 30 you could no longer button those pants. So what did you do? Did you walk around with the pants unbuttoned? No, you went to the store and bought a pair that fit properly.
Conversely, maybe you have been dieting so your pants are now too large. Do you tighten your belt and hope baggy pants are in style? Again no! You trim off the excess fabric to make everything fit better.
What is the point and what does it have to do with business?
Your business and support structure needs to be adjusted as your company changes size. Yet many companies either fail to see this or are simply resistant to change. This has several consequences. The most important of these is that you create unnecessary hardship for yourself, your employees and your company by not properly supporting your current business situation.
A Solution to Consider:
Put a simple, proven planning process in place, that assures your vision and goals are kept alive and well. Rather than work on a reactive basis (adjusting only when a crisis hits), consistently review your structure and support so that you always have what is truly needed.
